Literacy – Reading story books

Reading and storytelling with children promotes brain development and imagination, teaches them about language and emotions and strengthens relationships. As a lead up to Book Week the educators in Flinders West (3 year old kinder) have read a variety of story books to the children. They have investigated and discovered more about story books and other educational books; discovering new words, story sequence, asking questions, discussions etc. This was followed up with the children’s desired Art & Craft experiences such as making their paper dolls, collecting bark and sticks from the playground to create The Stickman or family members and painting their favourite characters in stories. At the end of our project the children brought in their favourite story books or other books to share
