Yesterday, one of the Kinder 3 children brought in some cardboard and foam packing from home for her class to explore. The Kinder 3 children as a collective, collaboratively decided to make a house. Using two of the foam pieces for the sides and the longer cardboard piece for the roof, they then began to place some wooden blocks on the roof creating tiles using tools to hammer them into place. The children then noticed that the roof began to sink as they piled more blocks on top. The educator suggested that the blocks may fall off the roof and onto the children’s heads, asking if there was something that could protect their heads from the blocks with. “Helmets!” they responded, making their own rule that if you wanted to sit inside the house, you must be wearing a helmet. The children worked together until their house was complete!
